Rick Parfitt Vibe Telecaster.......

My most recent custom build (Covid lockdown inspired), this telecaster is themed on Status Quo’s Rick Parfitt’s guitar. It features all the key elements of his original concept (white reliced body, rosewood on maple neck, solid wrap around type bridge but still using the original string through telecaster system), also I have made it a bit more pleasing on the eye by relicing it a bit more sympathetically, plus making it much easier to play with lighter strings and a super set-up; the tone and intonation is spot on.

Specs…

All the parts used were brand new for this build.

Mahogany body, air dried for 5 years +

43mm body with tummy cut, all up weight comfortable at 8.25lbs

9.5” radius neck, medium C profile, matte nitro finish, bone nut

Machine screw / inserts neck retention improves strength and sustain

Vintage style locking tuners

Sawn off ashtray bridge pickup surround (as per original)

Ironstone ‘Classic’ boutique pickups

(both pickups are working in this replica, Rick Parfitt had the neck pickup disconnected!)

Shielded cavities

Badass style bridge with absolutely no moving parts (as per the original)

GHS Boomer strings.

Fender Esquire Inspired Guitar.

I built and completed this one in May 2020. It is guitar No.13 out of my own Graham Tinkler 'Custom Shop' facility.

The Fender Esquire was Leo Fender's first ever electric guitar, some say the very first electric guitar of all time; the first one was built in 1950 with just one pickup, but it was swiftly followed by upgraded versions called Broadcasters which in turn led to the Telecaster which we are still buying today.

Mine has just one pickup with an 'Eldred' wiring mod which via it's three way switch gives a combination of tones available.

Specs of this guitar:-

Lightweight basswood body with stained ash veneer top.

Rosewood fingerboard on matte nitro finished maple neck.

Wrap-around bridge solid mounted to body.

Vintage locking tuners.

Ironstone Classic Telecaster bridge pickup.

This guitar produces the classic country 'twang' which is missing from so many modern telecasters.

Classic Tobacco Burst Telecaster.

I built and completed this one in June 2020. It is guitar No.14 out of my own Graham Tinkler 'Custom Shop' facility.

This is probably the most iconic telecaster colourway, a two colour burst, rosewood neck and parchment scratchplate.

Specs of this guitar:-

Full width (46mm) Alder body bound with abalone.

9.5" radius rosewood on maple Classic Vibe neck.

3 ply parchment scratchplate.

Fender Custom Shop pickups.

Traditional (string thru body) ashtray bridge.

Oak Grigsby switch, CTS pots, PIO Capacitor.

Schaller style strap locks.

Departing slightly from my normal 'light relic' builds this is a brand new shiny guitar with all new parts for this build. It now lives with Geoff in Terrington, Norfolk.

Neil Young Old Black Replica.

A music teacher from London contacted me earlier this year and asked me if I could convert this Epiphone Gold Top Les Paul into a Neil Young Replica as he is planning on starting a Neil Young tribute band as he is a big fan.

We worked on the specification together and over a five month period this guitar was born.

It is pretty much faithful to the original, sporting the following features:-

Black painted reliced body with gold showing through,

Reliced Bigsby

Schaller machine heads

Nickel covered Firebird mini-humbucker in the bridge position

Nickel covered P90 in the neck

Blower switch (Firebird straight into the output jack)

Look out for it in a pub near you!

These were manufactured especially for him by Fender using a string-thru hardtail strat body and the CBS style larger headstock and produced in many different colours, this guitar is modelled on one of the very early ones in iconic

Graffiti Yellow with a rosewood board.

Natural Woods Offset Hybrid.

Truly a unique guitar, there just just can't be another one like it anywhere!

Offset body blank from 'Luthier Crafts' based at the old Shotton Colliery up in the North East.

24" scale neck with zero fret and bone nut from Henry (HZ) up in Manchester.

Gotoh vintage style locking tuners.

Wilkinson 'shorty' telecaster style top-loading bridge.

Twin Seymour Duncan mini-humbuckers.

Volume and tone from Alpha pots fitted with paper in oil capacitor and treble bleed circuit.

Three-way switching via mini-toggle switch.

Blower switch via mini-toggle.

Many thanks to my buddy Russ who taught me how to French Polish. Russ did the first two applications and I did the next five, followed by a good finishing wax, it really has made the natural colours in the Heartwood and Maple 'pop'.

I am so pleased with the final outcome, the pickups sound amazing and the short scale coupled with the top-loader bridge makes it the 'slinkiest' ever playing guitar.

This guitar has now been rehomed with Peter in Snettisham.
